Bali, often referred to as the “Island of the Gods,” is a dream destination known for its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and vibrant atmosphere. Planning a trip to this tropical paradise requires careful consideration of the weather, especially if you want to make the most of your trip. Continue reading to learn more about the best time to visit Bali for good weather experiences!
What is the Weather Like in Bali?
Bali has a tropical climate characterized by two primary seasons: the dry season and the wet season.
When is Bali’s Dry Season?
Dry season in Bali generally runs from April to September and is marked by clear skies, lower humidity, and minimal rainfall, making it the most favorable time to visit. Average temperatures hover between 27°C to 32°C (81°F to 90°F), creating perfect conditions for beach outings, outdoor adventures, and cultural explorations.
When is Bali’s Wet Season?
While temperatures remain warm, the wet season from October to March brings increased humidity and rainfall. Expect short, heavy downpours, particularly in December and January, but some unlucky weeks can also bring nonstop rain and sometimes even flooding. Despite the rain, the island is lush and vibrant, and the waterfalls will be even more powerful, offering a different but beautiful experience.

Best Months to Visit Bali for Good Weather
April to June: These months signify the onset of the dry season. April is particularly lovely, as the island is still vibrant from the rainy season, and the weather is pleasantly warm. May and June continue to offer ideal conditions for outdoor activities and cultural festivals. We went to Bali in May and had perfect weather during our entire trip!
September: As the dry season comes to a close, September presents another excellent opportunity for travelers. The weather remains warm, and the crowds begin to thin out after the peak summer months.
Should you visit Bali in July or August?
I would recommend avoiding July and August if possible as these are the busiest months of the tourist season with larger crowds, and the weather will be hotter and more humid as well. Prices for hotels will also be highest during this time period, as many families are on summer break so demand is usually much higher.

How to Pack for Bali
What to Pack for Bali Dry Season
- Lightweight Clothing: Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to stay cool during the warm days.
- Sun Protection: Sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses are essential to protect yourself from Bali’s strong sun. While you can buy many essentials upon arrival, sunscreen is a bit more expensive to buy in Bali so I would recommend bringing your own. I’m a fan of Black Girl Sunscreen as it doesn’t leave a white cast and feels lightweight!
- Swimwear: Don’t forget your swimwear and cover up for beach days and pool lounging!
- Comfortable Footwear: Bring flip-flops for the beach and sturdy shoes for exploring rice terraces and hiking. I also recommend bringing a pair of lightweight water shoes for exploring Bali’s many waterfalls!
- Mosquito Repellent: while the lower humidity means fewer mosquitoes, there are still many and it’s a good idea to be prepared so you don’t spend your vacation scratching at nasty bites! I also like to bring a bug bite stick to help ease the itchiness of potential mosquito bites.
What to Pack for Bali Wet Season
- Lightweight Rain Gear: A breathable rain jacket or poncho will keep you dry during sudden showers. I also like bringing a mini umbrella that can fit in a small backpack or crossbody purse in case of unpredictable rain.
- Quick-Dry Clothing: Fabrics that dry quickly are ideal for unpredictable weather.
- Mosquito Repellent: Protect yourself from mosquito bites, especially in lush areas. I like to use a combination of natural mosquito repellent bracelets as well as DEET free bug spray.
- Waterproof Bag: Use a waterproof bag or ziplock bags to protect your electronics and valuables from moisture. Many travelers are fans of this waterproof phone holder!
- Comfortable Footwear: Waterproof shoes or sandals can be a lifesaver when navigating wet streets.

Key Tourist Attractions and Seasonal Closures
While many attractions in Bali remain open year-round, some may be affected by the wet season:
- Beaches: Most beaches are accessible year-round. However, rough sea conditions during the wet season can limit water activities like snorkeling and diving.
- Cultural Sites: Temples like Uluwatu and Tanah Lot are open, but keep an eye out for specific ceremonies that might close off access temporarily.
- Hiking Trails: Trails to popular spots like Mount Batur may be muddy or slippery during the wet season, so check conditions before heading out.
- Water Parks and Adventure Activities: Some adventure activities may close due to heavy rain. Always check availability in advance.
When is the cheapest time to visit Bali?
Off season travel usually brings lower prices, but it can come at a cost. While the best time to visit Bali for good weather will usually fall in the dry season, prices tend to be higher during this time, especially in July and August. Booking in advance is advisable to secure better rates, and luxury resorts may offer promotions early in the season. Also Expect crowded beaches and busy attractions during these peak months. The wet season will bring lower prices and smaller crowds, but the weather is more unpredictable and rain can put a damper on any outdoor plans. You’ll need to weigh the pros and cons when deciding if the cheaper prices are worth the weather tradeoffs.
Summary
Overall, we found that the best time to visit Bali for good weather will be during the dry season as it offers great conditions for outdoor activities, relaxing beaches, and cultural experiences. April, May, June, and September generally will have both great weather and slightly fewer crowds compared to July and August, so I would try and visit in those months if possible. Whether you’re lounging on the beach, exploring ancient temples, or enjoying local cuisine, Bali is sure to enchant you with its breathtaking beauty and warm hospitality!
