Santorini is one of those bucket list destinations that evokes images of stunning sunsets, dramatic cliffside views, romantic cave suites, and beautiful blue waters. If you’re planning a visit to Greece and are looking for a luxury hotel in Santorini that is truly mind blowing, then keep reading for our review of Canaves Oia Suites!
Canaves Oia Suites is a luxury cliffside hotel located in the heart of Oia in Santorini. The five star property is now part of Hilton’s Small Luxury Hotel collection, so you can book it with Hilton points (we used 120k HH points per night) and we were excited to stay two nights as part of a trip to Greece.
Where Is Canaves Oia Suites Located
Canaves Oia is located right in the heart of Oia, at the start of the famous marble path leading into Oia. Even though it was just steps away from the main attractions, shops, and restaurants, it still felt private and tranquil due to its cliffside location.

How to Get to Canaves Oia Suites
There’s two main options for getting to Santorini. You can either fly into Santorini’s local airport or take the ferry to the port. Since we were coming from Athens and had limited time in Santorini, we chose to fly to save time. We prebooked transportation in a shared van which was super seamless, so once we arrived at the airport and collected our bags our driver was waiting for us. While the hotel does offer their own shuttle, it’s much more expensive, so I recommend booking transportation separately.
The Welcome Experience
When we arrived at the hotel there was staff waiting to greet us and take our bags to the lobby. We had arrived before check in so our room wasn’t ready yet, but the staff stored our bags and gave us water bottles so we could go explore the island while we waited for the room. We also received a free welcome cocktail at the hotel’s cliffside restaurant which had gorgeous views.
Canaves Oia Suites Review
All the suites at Canaves Oia have their own private pools and stunning views of the caldera. While we originally booked a Junior Suite with a Plunge Pool, we were upgraded to a higher tier suite since we waited for a while for the room to be ready!
Our room included a welcome bottle of wine and complimentary fruit platter as well which was such a nice touch.
Canaves Oia is known for their private pool suites, and they definitely did not disappoint, with panoramic views of the caldera and perfect sunrise views. The pool can be slightly heated, but since we visited in May it was still a bit too cold to swim. If you’re visiting in June or later, the water temperature will likely be much more comfortable! Luckily we also had a queen size daybed that was perfect for relaxing in the sun and enjoying the incredible views. The room also included complimentary pool towels, flip flops, sunhats, and a beach bag.
In the bedroom, the king sized bed was super comfortable and the hotel provides twice daily turndown service, an added touch that shows their high level of service.
The robes were were incredibly soft and comfortable, and the slippers were great as well.
The bathroom was massive, with a double headed rainfall shower, double vanity sinks, and a toilet with a bidet. The towels were incredibly soft and the toiletries were just as luxurious (they even had a body scrub!)
There was an area for our suitcases behind the bed along with plenty of closet space, a safe, and mini fridge.
How is the Food at Canaves Oia Suites
Breakfast was included in our stay since we are Diamond members with Hilton, and the options were some of the best I’ve had at a hotel before. We received plates of fresh fruit, breads, and jams in addition to the meals we ordered off of the menu. I ordered a pastrami breakfast sandwich while my boyfriend ordered the eggs benedict, and both were delicious.
However, the star of the food at Canaves Oia is at Petra Restaurant, a Greek inspired fine dining restaurant with sweeping views of the caldera. You can try out their tasting menu or order a la carte, and they also offer wine pairings. We decided to go with the a la carte menu.
Even though we went with the a la carte menu, it still felt like a multi course tasting. We started with an amuse bouche and fresh bread before the appetizers we ordered arrived. For our main courses we shared both a short rib dish and lamb dish, and both were incredible. Then we received a palate cleanser before our dessert. The dessert was prepared tableside and was absolutely divine. The presentation of everything was beautiful, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. While expensive, I’d highly recommend at least one dinner at Petra.
Amenities and Activities
The hotel has two main pools that guests can lounge at, and one of them is an infinity pool. There is also a state of the art health and wellness spa, as well as a gym with indoor and outdoor spaces and personal training available.
There’s also a few experiences you can book through the hotel such as cooking classes, pottery classes, painting, olive oil tastings, and wine tastings.
Another thing to note is that Canaves Oia is one of the only properties in Santorini that has an elevator!
How Was the Service?
Overall we felt that the service level was excellent. Between the welcome gifts, evening turndown service, and personalized attention from staff, we felt like we were treated like royalty.
Is Canaves Oia Suites Adults Only?
All guests need to be 13 or older, so this property is geared more towards adults. In my opinion, Canaves Oia Suites is the perfect destination for a honeymoon or for couples looking for a romantic getaway.
Overall Review of Canaves Oia Suites
Canaves Oia Suites was an incredible hotel experience. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had private pools with beautiful caldera views. The food was delicious as well, and the service level was extremely high, with lots of attention to detail to make the guest experience truly memorable. I would 100% recommend this hotel if you’re looking for a luxury getaway in Santorini, Greece and I hope to stay again one day!
